Shila Abhyanga honors and marries together the unchanged, traditional sequencing,  dosha-specific details of pressure, pace, rhythm, and herbal oil selection found at the heart of Ayurvedic Massage (Abhyanga) with the (swedana)  thermotherapeutics and polarity therapy of stone massage.

Incorporates:

A. Ayurvedic Massage (Abhyanga) is an energy harmonizing massage therapy performed with knowledge of constitutional & metabolic characteristics with attendant proclivities to become imbalanced.
We will build upon the base ABGA in this class.
If you are a practicing massage therapist- though you have not studied Ayurvedic Massage- you may still attend.
It will be suggested that you receive 1 Ayurvedic Massage prior to taking the class to more directly appreciate the differences. References are available.

B. Swedana/Thermotherapy: Constitutional education reminds us that no 2 bodies are alike, and that there is no 1 size fits all therapy. This is true in context of warming therapies as well as cooling therapies. You will explore this scientific aspect of natural healing.

C. Polarity Therapy: Inherent within all of Ayurveda's body therapeutics is the concept of polarity. It may be found in studying Marma Chikitsa, Prana Chikitsa, Shirodhara, and Abhyanga. In this class, you will deepen into a clearly accessible physical understanding and experience of Polarity Therapy via discussion of geomagnetism, thermal radiance, and ionic exchanges within the cells.

This class is packed with practical, ready to use hand skills.
For example, this Ayurvedic Stone Massage training will provide participants with 3 distinct stone massage applications.

1. VATA SHILA NIRODHA TX Sedation + Relaxation Thermotherapy with stones: For the upcoming cold Vata & Kapha seasons (Autumn and Winter), you will learn how to incorporate the radiant warmth of metamorphic stones in the Maha Marma Protocol.
This protocol is not an active massage stroke skill, but, instead, provides swedana (local sauna). You will learn how to place warm, rather than hot, stones in a layout pattern on top of the treatment table over which the recipient reclines, supine. Once in place, 3 additional layout stones are placed directly over the Basti & Hridaya Marmas (or, core and heart/thymus centers) as well as the Shiro Maha Marma region of the temples and brow. The intent & outcome of this primary feature of Shila abhyanga is to reduce and center high Vata through the thermal response of relaxation and sedation, as well as the pranic, or geomagnetic remanence factors to the nervous system. This comprises 50%of the practices covered.

2. KAPHA LANGHANA SHILA TX  Contrast & Percussive Thermotherapy with stones: For the early spring detox (Kapha) season, you will learn how to apply localised contrast thermotherapy with stones as well as active stroking with hot metamorphic stones and specially prepared herbal oils to address lipid emulsification and to stimulate lymphatic drainage. This comprise 25% of the practices covered.

3. PITTA CHANDRA SHILA TX Thermotherapy with stones: For reduction of Pitta whether in targeted inflammation patterns or as a constitutional challenge, you will learn how to wisely balance cooling stone work with the radiant warmth of metamorphic stones in the Maha Marma Protocol. We will practice cold stone applications as well. This comprises 25% of the practices covered.

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded at the end of the course.
All Materials will be provided.
Metamorphic stones and Herbalised oils and balms may be purchased after class, but are not required.

TUITION: $295
Who should attend: massage practitioners, spa treatment workers, yoga therapists, and anyone who studies and works with Ayurveda
