PITTA KAPHA SKINCARE
Pitta-Kapha skin combines the heat of Pitta with the oiliness of Kapha.
It is typically thick, cool, and oily, with a tendency toward cystic acne, redness, and clogged pores.
It differs from Vata (which is dry and thin) and Kapha (which is stable and thick but purely oily).
Treatment focuses on cooling, oil-balancing, and regular exfoliation.
Characteristics of Pitta-Kapha Skin
People with a Pitta-Kapha skin type often experience traits from both constitutional energies, creating a very specific set of skin needs:
Texture: Thick and soft to the touch, similar to classic Kapha skin.
Temperature: Unlike singular Kapha (which is usually cool), Pitta-Kapha can feel warm and be sensitive to the sun.
Oils: Excess sebum (oil) is produced, particularly in the T-zone, often making the pores appear larger.
Breakouts: Vulnerable to inflamed, red, or pus-filled pimples and cystic breakouts due to the combination of heat (Pitta) and clogged pores (Kapha).
How it Differs from Vata or Kapha Skin
Vata Skin: Vata is ruled by air and space. It is thin, dry, and prone to fine lines and premature aging. Pitta-Kapha is the exact opposite—it is thick and oily
Kapha Skin: Ruled by earth and water, pure Kapha skin is thick, pale, and prone to blackheads and dullness. When Pitta is added, heat and inflammation enter the mix, turning quiet, sluggish Kapha breakouts into angry, red Pitta pimples.
How to Treat Pitta-Kapha Skin
In Ayurveda, we treat the skin by adding opposites.
Since Pitta-Kapha is hot and oily, your skincare routine should be cooling, purifying, and clarifying.
1. Cleanse Cycling
We have created Pitta Face Wash: a gentle cleanser that combines ingredients like honey, coconut oil, aloe and astringent herbs for most days.
Also, if your skin is very sensitive, there is a Free + Pure Version: Fragrance free, tree nut free, oil freeAlternate between water-based Pitta Face Wash and our oil based Nourish or Green cleansing balms, and Azulene Facial Oil for cleansing, makeup removal, to remediate dry barrier skin at night
Avoid harsh, dehydrating soaps, as they cause the skin to overcompensate by producing more oil.
2. Exfoliate + Tone
Use clay based exfoliants such as white or green clay that also combines botanical granulation of flower petals, organic flours, and anti inflammatory leaves.
We formulate 2 perfect toners with ingredients like Rose Water, Calendula and Witch Hazel to help close open pores, reduce redness, reset healthy pH and remove excess heat.
3. Moisturize Lightly
Even with a tendency towards oiliness, you still need a moisturizer. We pick the Fragrance Free “Free + Pure” or the Anti Inflammatory Calendula Turmeric Face Creams for you
Replenish + Repair: with our light, hydrating, and calming Vitamin C Hyalyuronic serum
