KAPHA VATA SKINCARE
Kapha-Vata skin type combines the cold and rough qualities of Vata with the dense, oily qualities of Kapha.
This creates a complexion that is dry in some areas (like the cheeks) but oily, thick, or prone to clogged pores and blackheads in others (like the T-zone).
How it Differs from Single Dosha Types
In Ayurveda, the body’s energy is governed by three primary forces (doshas): Vata (air/space), Pitta (fire/water), and Kapha (earth/water).
Vata Skin: Entirely dry, rough, thin, and prone to early wrinkles. It lacks both oil and water.
Pitta Skin: Sensitive, warm, and easily inflamed. It is prone to redness, acne, and freckles.
Kapha Skin: Consistently oily, thick, soft, and cool. It is prone to enlarged pores and cysts.
Kapha-Vata Skin: A combination of two. It shifts between Vata’s dry flakiness and Kapha’s oily buildup. Unlike pure Kapha, which is oily all over, or pure Vata, which is universally dry, this combination skin struggles with localized imbalances, such as dry cheeks with an oily forehead or nose.
How to Treat Kapha-Vata Skin
Treating this skin type means calming Vata with warmth and hydration while managing Kapha with light, oil-free ingredients.
1. Have More Than 1 Cleanser
Use water-soluble oil + aloe based Kapha cleanser every night to remove debris without stripping moisture.
For an oily T zone, use our activated charcoal cleanser.
2. Use a Dynamic Exfoliator Instead of an Abradent Exfoliator
To keep Kapha clear, exfoliate 2X per week, at bedtime: perform a bi-phase (2 step) cleanse with the Ayurvedic AHA Fruit Cell Extract cleanser followed by the oil cleanse (either Triphala Tulsi Oil or Clary XO). The glycolic acids reach deeply into the pores where comedones proliferate, and render them unviable.
3. Moisturize Wisely
Use light, astringent herb infused creams and serum.
We offer the Element Protectant cream in our BALANCE kit for it’s barrier fortifying and oil balancing capabilities.
Alternatively, the CLARITY kit comes with Into the Light, a non-oily pore breathing cream for Kapha tendencies.
