The 3rd layer of epidermis is the realm of these 2 doshic attributes.

In Ayurveda, the name for this Skin Dhatu is Shweta, and it means both “the white” and “the structural” layer.

The tissues here are responsible for providing structural integrity, intracellular hydration and balance to the skin's overall color and surface texture.

Imbalances originating at this layer include puffiness, dullness, congestion and sometimes, oiliness mixed with deep dehydration. Sebum inside the pores may dry out and cause the pores to be enlarged.

Because increase of cold causes constriction (both vata + kapha qualities) impeding circulation in these layers.
