Formulating Your Own Skincare
YOU:
You might be an Esthetician, an LMT, or trained in Pancha Karma and all the beautiful bliss therapies within it.
And, now you want to develop mastery in the Skincare aspects of Ayurveda: a facial, head, and transdermal body of work that interweaves both Ayurveda and Modern Esthetics.
If you have experienced both a “Modern” or “Western Med-Spa” Facial and, also, an Ayurvedic facial, you could tell there is a difference, but not exactly how to clearly articulate it.
You sense there is depth and a quality in Ayurvedic Facials that was lost to modern western skincare and dermatology as the cosmetics “industry” grew, commercialized and medicalized it’s skincare.
One difference is the quality of the practitioner touch.
Another is the primary feature in modern skincare to sell you products rather than to address a person holistically: their lifestyle, mind, body and spirit. And then, decide on caring rituals with food grade topicals.
This quality you experienced during every single part of the Ayurvedic facial:
The ingredients felt and smelled REAL.
The practitioner’s sensory touch felt PURPOSEFUL, AMAZING, CONSCIOUS.
The sequence was SEAMLESS and SOOTHING.
And, now you are passionate to learn this “Ayurvedic Skincare”.
The only setback is that:
When you want to go further in your studies, you discover a limit of organized information. Legit professional level, “Ayurvedic Skincare” is not being taught to estheticians.
What you find are this-for-that-dosha products “applied to skin”.
Or, lists of foods for this or that “dosha-specific skin issue”.
Or, online quizzes and questionnaires designed to help the consumer select a home care product based on, again, their “dosha”.
Ayurvedic Esthetics is a nuanced field - in it’s formative, evolutionary stages.
Why?
Because Ayurveda is a holistic medical system as well as a lifestyle path.
MEDICAL AYURVEDA: inside out
(diagnosing & prescribing internal treatments) as a pathway to healing the skin.
Ayurveda is a medical rejuvenation system whose practititioners are thoroughly trained in internal, lifestyle, dietary and medicine-grade oral herbal therapies, which views skin disease, skin care, and facial beauty as an “inside out” rather than an “outside in” process (as it should).
LIFESTYLE AYURVEDA: outside in
(applying transdermal nutritives and detoxifiers) as a pathway to healing the skin.
Ayurveda lifestyle practices embrace daily habits and rituals and practices whose repetition maintain health and vitality, with understandings of bio-accumulation and post-application effects on the dhatus, and include the foods we eat, aromatherapy, moral beauty, sleep, joy, as well as the oils and ingredients we massage onto our skin.
WEIGHING YOUR OPTIONS
As a result, unless one commits to becoming a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, there are limits of information available in the “Ayurvedic” skincare world today.
And, even if you ARE a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner or a Pancha Karma Therapist, your training covered facial treatments to some degree, but not to the extent that a dedicated skincare study and practice will.
In other words:the facial portion of abhyanga, shirodhara, champissage, and marma facial massage is still not a facial, or skincare.
But, there IS common ground where you can grow your skincare practice and honor the integrity of both sciences: Ayurveda and Modern Skincare, without watering down either.
WHEN THE STUDENT IS READY, THE TEACHER APPEARS

Where’s your teacher?
MEET YOUR TEACHER: CAROLLANNE CRICHTON LE AyTLMT , FORMULIST OWNER Solavedi Organics
Besides being the Formulist here at Solavedi Organics, I am a practicing LMT since 1989, and an Ayurvedic Pancha Karma Therapist since 1984.
I’m also a Licensed Esthetician.
I owned and operated a massage school in CT in the early 2000’s, and, after handing it over to one of my students, began developing the Solavedi Organics range of topical skincare and massage medicinals as an extension of client work.
I have spent over 25 years integrating Ayurvedic Rasayana, or, Rejuvenation Principles and prescriptives, the spiritual topography of the Pranic Healing pathways, and the formulation of herbal cosmetology into a 5 Step (Pancha Karma) Facial.
What began as a massage centric facial flow evolved into a sequence driven framework guided by both western skincare science and ancient teachings.
